KVL postponed

The inaugural Kerala Volleyball League, an IPL-style professional league which was scheduled to begin in Kozhikode on February 20, has been postponed.

“We have found that franchise owners would need more time to effectively organise their participation. Bringing together a professional management team to run the franchise is the biggest constraint for the franchise owner,” said Jitendra Joshi, the CEO of SportzConsult, which is organising the event with the Kerala State Volleyball Association.

“Evaluating the scenario and to have a successful league, we decided to take the tough call to postpone the first edition of KVL by a couple of months. We are in discussion with everyone involved and will have new dates very soon.”

The league will be a six-team affair and eight people have show interest in buying the teams, said Mr Joshi. Some partnerships and sponsorships have already been finalised for the league which will see nearly 100 players from Kerala and outside in action.
