Stern action against anti-social elements

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: To ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls, slated to be held on February 21, the Bangalore City police will take stern action against anti-social elements, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said here on Tuesday.

Warrants and proclamations against habitual offenders and anti-social elements would be issued till February 28, he told reporters. In connection with at least 20,000 cases, around 5,000 proclaimed offenders and an equal number of fugitives have gone underground, violating bail conditions.

Reacting to a question on the tension that engulfed the city in the wake of actor Vishnuvardhan’s death on December 30, he said: “Some anti-social elements posing as fans went on the rampage in various parts of the city. Thirty-two cases have been booked and 40 persons arrested.”
