Devika Ramesh Devika Ramesh has kept her promise to her family by winning the second place in Kathaprasangam at the State school art festival this year. “I had always wanted to win the prize and emulate my aunt and Carnatic musician Binny Krishnakumar. She had won the first prize in Kathaprasangam and the Kalathilakam title in 1989, says Devika, a Plus Two student of MKNMHSS, Kumaramangalam (Idu kki). “My aunt is my first guru in Kathaprasangam and it was from her that I learnt the acting part of the art,” she says. Binny Krishnakumar is delighted at her niece’s victory. “Her triumph makes me nostalgic as I always enjoyed participating the schools festival,” she says. “Though I could win several honours later, I rate the ‘Kalathilakam’ title as my biggest achievement. Classical, and light music and Malayalam recitation were the other events that helped me get the title, says Binny Krishnakumar, the only person to get the title from Idukki. P.K. Ajith Kumar
