Consultation on Bt brinjal postponed

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Public consultation on the issue of allowing commercial cultivation of Bt. brinjal in India, scheduled to be held in Bangalore on January 23, has been postponed to January 25.

It has been postponed following a direction from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests said an official of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), without elaborating on the reasons. He, however, said that the venue and timings for the consultation remains unchanged.

The Good Shepherd Auditorium on Residency Road is the venue..

Meanwhile, non-governmental organisations opposing the introduction of the genetically modified food in India have expressed displeasure over the postponement. “Several people from Tamil Nadu and Kerala had planned to reach Bangalore for the consultation. The postponement has caused inconvenience to the participants,” Krishnaprasad of Sahaja Samrudha told The Hindu.
