BMRCL opens rehabilitation housing units

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) on Wednesday inaugurated a rehabilitation unit for residents of the Jaibheem Nagar slum in Gandhinagar, who are being moved to make way for the north-south corridor of the Namma Metro project.

One hundred and three families will be displaced from this area though they are being rehabilitated in Peenya, an industrial area on the city’s outskirts.

In a press release, BMRCL’s Chief Public Relations Officer B.L. Yashavanth Chavan said the houses had been built on two acres of land at Siddarthanagar, Peenya. The land was acquired by BMRCL for its Peenya Depot.

Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA M. Srinivas, in whose constituency the new flats have been built, and Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao, from whose constituency the people were being displaced, inaugurated the units.

Describing the facilities, the press release says each two-storied dwelling unit has an area 754 sq. ft., and costs Rs. 7.45 lakh. The ground floor consists of a living room, kitchen and a bath area while the first floor has two bedrooms with attached bath and a balcony. Each home is provided with a 1,000-litre overhead tank and a sump. The release said the colony is fed by two borewells.
