Anniversary celebration

MADURAI: The 56th anniversary of Madurai District Isai Velalar Nagaswaram and Thavil Artistes’ Association was held on Tuesday. R. Chockalingam, president, Kavignar Kannadasan Narpani Mandram, who was the chief guest, appealed to the government to form a welfare board for nagaswaram and thavil artistes.

M. P. N. Ponnusamy, nagaswaram vidwan, presided over the celebration.

The title, ‘Ezhil Natha Isai Maamani,’ was conferred on S. M. Mani, M. Narayani and K. Ammaiyappan and ‘Thavil Isai Nayagam’ on M. Ramamurthi, K. Rathinagiri and S. Shanmugam on the occasion.
