TIRUCHI: Cultural programmes by Scouts and Guides representing various railway zones, release of a special souvenir and distribution of prizes marked the valedictory of the 14th Indian Railways Jamborette that came to a close here on Friday. Over 2,000 Scouts and Guides from 16 railway zones participated in the Jamborette that was organised by the Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts and Guides at the Golden Rock railway grounds here after a gap of 25 years. The six-day event whose theme was “Protect Environment and Promote Peace” featured various activities and competitions among Scouts and Guides, thus enabling them to showcase their skills and talents besides providing an opportunity to interact and share their experiences with their counterparts from across the country. Releasing a special souvenir and distributing prizes, Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishan appreciated their talents and the meticulous planning on the part of the organisers. He said efforts would be taken to organise the event at Southern Railway for the third and fourth time in Tiruchi. Additional Member Staff, Railway Board and Chairman, Railway Scouts and Guides Board, P.K. Sharma said the Jamborette had set a benchmark in all respects. State Chief Commissioner, Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts and Guides, and Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway V. Carmelus said each participant had planted a sapling.
