MADURAI: A plea to name the highway from Chennai to Kanyakumari as ‘Kural Vazhi Salai’ has been made by Tamil Research Centre. In a resolution passed at its eleventh Pongal celebration here on Thursday, the organisation said a couplet of Tirukkural should be engraved, along with its meaning, on the highway at each kilometre. Pongal should be celebrated as a cultural festival by the government among students. The meeting, presided over by C. S. Rajan, called for steps to establish sculpture parks depicting Tamil culture on important junctions in Madurai, according to a press release. The District Collector, N. Mathivanan, also participated in the celebration.
