PATHANAMTHITTA: Pushpotsav-2010, a flower show organised by the Agri-Horticulture Society (AHS), will be held at the municipal stadium in Thiruvalla town from January 22 to 26. In a statement issued here on Sunday, AHS office-bearers said Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran would inaugurate the event at 6.30 p.m. on January 22. District Superintendent of Police K. Sanjaykumar will flag off a cultural procession in the town at 4 p.m. Shingari-melom, Thiruvathira, Oppana, Margamkali and a ganamela will be held as part of the cultural fiesta in the evening. Competitions will be held in categories like house gardens, institutional gardens, vegetable gardens, potted plants, ornamental plants, cacti and succulent collection, fruits and flower arrangements as part of the five-day event. Cultural programmes by television troupes would be held on all five days, organisers said. Anto Antony, MP, inaugurated the reception committee office of the flower show on Sunday and P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha member, inaugurated the work on the exhibition pavilion at the municipal stadium.
