BANGALORE: The four-year-old son of a building contractor, who was kidnapped three days ago, was rescued by the city police on Saturday. The police arrested a 19-year-old employee of the contractor for abducting the boy. Akshay Kumar was kidnapped while he was returning home from school on January 13. Akshay’s father, Vashihar Pandit, began getting calls demanding a ransom the next day. On January 15 the kidnappers told Mr. Pandit to come with Rs. 5 lakh to the city railway station pedestrian underpass. Pandit informed the Mahadevapura police about the plan. The police caught Dharmendra (19), the employee, at the designated spot. “At present, it looks like the accused abducted Mr. Pandit’s son for money,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Chandra Shekar. RobbedFour persons robbed Suraj (22) of his cash and two cellphones near Nagasandra Circle on Friday night. According to the police, Suraj, a resident of Abhayappa Layout near BTM Layout, was waiting for his friend at the circle. Four persons who arrived in an autorickshaw pulled him into the vehicle, stole Rs. 1,200 and two cellphones from him. The miscreants took off after dropping Suraj about 200 m from the circle. The Tyagarajanagar police have registered a case. FireFurniture of the State Bank of Mysore branch near BHEL, off Mysore Road, was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Saturday. The Byatarayanapura police said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit around 10 a.m. Two fire engines put out the fire. ArrestsThe Upparpet police arrested a 42-year-old man from Mangalore for allegedly duping a woman by promising her a job in Saudi Arabia. The police said Abdul Kalam took money from a girl in Chickmagalur in September 2009 for getting her a job. He called the girl to a lodge in Gandhinagar and molested her. The girl filed a complaint with the Upparpet police in October 2009. The police arrested Kalam on Thursday. The police are now searching for Kalam’s accomplices, Shafi and Ismail. The Byatrayanapura police arrested Mohammed Rafiq (28) on Thursday for the murder of Iklas Sharief, the manager of United Marketing firm, on December 19. Rafiq, who had been dismissed from the firm, allegedly attacked Sharief in a parking lot near the firm. The police produced him before the jurisdictional court on Friday. The Rajagopalnagar police have arrested R. Ravikumar (25), Raghunayak (23) and K.G. Paramesh (21) for their alleged involvement in stealing two-wheelers and snatching gold chains in various parts of the city. The cases were reported in Rajagopalnagar, Nandini Layout, Magadi Road, Vijayanagar, Jnanabharati and Tavarekere police station limits. The police have recovered 15 two-wheelers and 40 gm of gold ornaments. The Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested Prashant (19) and Johnson (19) for allegedly stealing motorcycles parked near colleges. The police have recovered six motorcycles, a cellphone and a gold chain from them.
