Thrissur: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said the State government will use Rs.20 crore from the Rs.40-crore being granted by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for the development of Ayurveda sector. She was addressing the valedictory function of the 13th State conference of the Ayurveda Medical Association of India. “The State government proposes to improve amenities in Ayurveda hospitals. Modernisation of all public-sector Ayurveda centres, with commencement or improvement of in-patient facilities, is on the cards. The government had apprised the Department of Ayush of the condition of Ayurveda hospitals in the State and the salary/benefits being received by the employees. Funds sanctioned by the Department of Ayursh for the development of Ayurveda will be distributed to hospitals. Even if the Centre does not sanction funds, the State government will launch development programmes in the sector,” she said. DispensariesShe urged local bodies to set up Ayurveda dispensaries. “The Panchakarma Institute in Thiruvananthapuram will be made a centre of international standards. A Panchakarma hospital will be set up in Alappuzha. There is huge demand for trained masseurs. More people should be trained in the discipline,” she said. Later, the Minister presented the Ayurveda Medical Association of India Award for 2010 to V.C. Asha of Amrita TV.
