Two AIADMK cadre electrocuted; three hurt

MADURAI: In a tragic incident, two AIADMK cadre died when they came in contact with a live electricity cable near New Jail Road. Three other cadre were injured and admitted to hospital for treatment.

Police said that at around 10.15 p.m. on Saturday, P. Kamaraj (45) of Raman Pettai New Jail Road, I. Paraman (30) of the same locality and three others identified as Srinivasan, Zaheer and Murugan were involved in putting up banners and erecting their party flag poles in the area ahead of MGR’s birth anniversary. Suddenly, Kamaraj and Paraman were thrown away when they touched a flag pole. Shocked, when three others came to their rescue, they were also thrown out.

On information, all the injured were rushed to the government hospital, but doctors declared Kamaraj and Paraman dead. The other cadre are convalescing and were said to be stable.

Party functionaries led by Madurai urban district secretary Sellur K. Raju among others paid their last respects and wore black badges.

Karimedu police have registered a case and are investigating.
