JD(S) to field candidats for all seats in BBMP

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the Janata Dal (Secular) State President said here on Sunday that there would be no seat sharing with the Congress in the coming Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike elections and that the JD(S) would contest all 198 seats. This, he felt, would help strengthen the party at the grassroots level. He was addressing presspersons at the Government High School grounds. He was in Hassan to attend the golden jubilee function of Hassan District Central Cooperative Bank. He said he took this decision as there was no response from the Congress. On the Akrama-Sakrama scheme that was returned by Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Governor wanted the matter to be discussed on the floor of the legislature, threadbare. The Bharatiya Janata Party had announced the Akrama-Sakrama scheme to divert the attention of the people.

On the challenge by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa that he [Kumaraswamy] should take “pramana (swear in the name of God)” in Dharmasthala temple that he was not involved in BBMP benami contracts, Mr. Kumaraswamy said he had accepted the challenge but wanted to know what type of “pramana” the Chief Minister expected from him. He recalled that Mr. Yeddyurappa had sweared in the name of God that he would not get Lok Sabha ticket for his son Raghavendra to contest from Shimoga Lok Sabha Constituency, but he had done the reverse. Mr. Kumaraswamy also demanded that Mr. Yeddyurappa should in turn swear that he had not taken any kickback from NICE in Bangalore, along with other BJP leaders.
