Over 20 workshops and seminars being organised One day devoted to programmes for women CHIKMAGALUR: L.H. Manjunath, executive director of Srikshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, said here on Monday that the 30th annual Kisan Mela would be conducted by his institution in Kadur from February 18 to 20. Mr. Manjunath told presspersons that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would inaugurate the mela. He said D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Srikshetra Dharmasthala, would attend the event on all the three days. Stating that the mela, which was likely to attract a large number of visitors, would have more than 300 exhibition stalls, he said the agricultural exhibition stalls would facilitate higher learning for farmers, who interacted with other progressive farmers, scientists and manufacturers. He said more than 20 workshops and seminars and audiovisual media had been organised in the mela which was intended to build confidence among farmers and enthuse them to take up farming. The mela had earmarked a day for programmes on women’s empowerment. Reiterating that importance would be given to demonstration and display of agricultural machineries suitable to local cultivation practices, he said his institution was the only organisation other than agricultural universities to conduct annual Kisan Melas. C.T. Ravi, MLA, said such Kisan Melas should try to evolve solutions to the problems faced by farmers.
