Gulbarga: The Union Government proposes to undertake a survey on the impact of the pre- and post-recession period on the industry and employment scenario in the country.

Union Labour and Employment Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge told presspersons here on Monday that the V.V. Giri Labour Institute has been entrusted with the responsibility to conduct the survey and submit its findings to the Government at the earliest.

Mr. Kharge said the inputs provided by the industry and the representative bodies of the industry would be included in the survey findings. He said: “Primarily this survey is to know the situation whether the industries have come out the impact of recession and how this has affected the production and the financial health of the industry”. The survey would also provide an insight on how recession had affected employment scenario and how far the recovery of the industry from the impact of recession had helped improve the employment opportunities. Mr. Kharge said that this would give an opportunity to the Government to initiate remedial measures to help the industry and also improve employment opportunities. Mr. Kharge said by and large all sectors in the country had come out of the worst period of recession and the economy was on the path of recovery and the country was expected to achieve the targeted growth rate due to the improved economic situation.

To a question, he said that he would be holding discussions with officials concerned and submit a note on the pending projects of the State to the respective Ministers before the budgetary discussions begin so that these projects are included in the budget proposals.

Mr. Kharge said that he would discuss with Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee about the long-pending demand of the Hyderabad Karnataka region for establishing a Railway Division in Gulbarga city and expediting the lingering Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line by providing more funds.

Earlier, he participated in the foundation day programme of the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce of Industry.
