Gulbarga
Seeking action: Members of the Madiga Dandora Madiga Reservation Horata Samiti staging a dharna in Gulbarga on Monday. Gulbarga: The Madiga Dondora Madiga Reservation Horata Samiti has urged the State Government to scrap the Justice A.J. Sadashiva Commission appointed in 2005 by the then Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh. The commission was appointed to report on whether the reservation facilities extended to the Scheduled Castes had reached all the people belonging to the castes included in the list of the Scheduled Castes. According to the State president of the samiti Mappanna Hadanur and District president Namadev D. Sippy, the commission was supposed to submit its report in five months but had failed to do so even after five years. Members of the samiti staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Gulbarga on Monday and demanded the appointment of another commission and give it a time frame to submit its report. Mr. Hadanur alleged that the Justice A.J. Sadashiva Commission was wasting time by seeking more time to submit the report. By doing so, it was doing injustice to the 80 lakh Madigas who had hoped that the commission would undo the injustice done to them for several years. Mr Hadanur also demanded the State Government to constitute a separate development corporation for the Madigas in the State so that the benefits extended by the State Government reached the community. He also wanted the Government to take stringent action against the officials who had been issuing false caste certificates to the people belonging to the “Mangrodi” community as Madigas in Gulbarga district. Earlier, they submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to the district authorities.
