Reward for first scheme beneficiary

Kozhikode: District Collector P.B. Salim, on Monday, presented household articles for Rs.5,000 to Parikandiparambil Balan who became the first person to construct a house in the district under the Tsunami Comprehensive Rehabilitation Project of the State government.

Earlier, the district administration had announced that a special prize would be given to the beneficiary who came first in execution of the scheme.

Mr. Salim reached the house of Mr. Balan at Chemmencherry village at the house-warming ceremony and handed over the household articles to him. A function was also arranged at the house.

A. Viswan, MLA; Chemencherry grama panchayat president P.C. Satheeshkumar; Panthalayani block panchayat member K.P. Chandrika; ward members Suhara Mehaboob and T.P. Reena; Deputy Collector K. Balakrishnan; and village officer T.K. Mohanan were present.

Last year, the Collector had announced the special prize during a meeting of beneficiaries in Koyilandy. Following the announcement, several persons started constructing houses after obtaining the funds under the project. However, it was Mr. Balan who first finished the project.

Officials said a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh was given to each beneficiary having a piece of land to construct a house. Simultaneously, the government, through the Kerala State Housing Board, constructed houses for those who did not possess land.
