Thrissur: In a rare honour to the Thrissur Archdiocese, the Syro-Malabar Church has picked three new bishops from the district. Vicar General Raphael Thattil has been selected as auxiliary bishop of the Thrissur Archdiocese. Bosco Puthur, rector, St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva, has been selected as the first-ever bishop of the Major Archbishops Curia. Minor Seminary Rector Paul Alappat will be appointed as bishop of the newly-formed Ramanathapuram diocese in Coimbatore. Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath announced the selection of Monsignor Raphael Thattil and Monsignor Bosco Puthur at a special function at the Lourdes Cathedral here. The selection of Monsignor Paul Alappat was announced at the Bishop’s House in Palakkad. Born in Parappur as the seventh son of Antony- Kunjilakutty couple, Monsignor Bosco Puthur had his basic education in St. Johns High School, Parappur, and later joined Thoppe Minor Seminary. He got his doctorate in theology for the paper ‘From the principle of the hope to the theology of hope.’ Son of Joseph and Thresia of Thrissur, Bishop-designate Raphael Thattil had his education at St. Thomas College High School, here. He had his higher studies at Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome. He received his doctorate for his paper on Church law. Monsignor Paul Alappat is the fifth son of Varunny-Elya couple of Porathur. After finishing his basic education from Peringottukara Government High School, he joined in Thoppe Minor Seminary. He had done his higher studies in Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome.
