Jyoti Basu’s death condoled

HYDERABAD: A. Chakrapani, chairman, AP Legislative Council, AP Council of Churches, SCR Mazdoor Union and AP State Backward Classes Welfare Association on Monday condoled the death of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.

In a message, Dr. Chakrapani termed the death as a loss to the nation. The SCR Mazdoor Union organised a condolence meeting to mourn the death of Basu, who was a former vice-president of the All-India Railwaymen’s Federation.

Tirupati Special Correspondent writes: The Chittoor district units of the CPI (M) and the CPI, besides the TDP and the Praja Rajyam, have at a joint meeting condoled the demise of Basu.

Leaders addressing the party cadres recalled with reverence the unswerving commitment of India’s longest serving Chief Minister to the Leftist ideologies and so also the lasting measures he had initiated for the uplift of the poor and working class.

Naidu for Kolkata

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu is leaving for Kolkata on Tuesday to attend the final rites of the veteran Marxist leader, Jyoti Basu.
