TIRUCHI: Thirty five affiliated colleges of Anna University - Tiruchi have so far secured eight MBPS (megabits per second) bandwidth connectivity of 1:1 ratio from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BNSL). They constitute about fifty per cent of the number of affiliated colleges in the university’s fold. Each college has been benefited owing to the negotiations the university had with BSNL to secure the connectivity at a competitive rate of Rs. 11.5 lakh, against a quote that was more than three times higher, according to Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachandran. Each of the rest of the affiliated colleges spread across central and southern districts have a minimum of two MBPS bandwidth connectivity from various service providers. The high-bandwidth connectivity is of immense utility to the university to transmit e-learning materials to the colleges and implement effective e-administration. According to Dr. Ramachandran, the high bandwidth connectivity must be matched with sufficient network backbone. The university which has 10 MBPS bandwidth connectivity had created network backbone to the extent of 10 GB over the last two years, he said. The university has also invited self-financing affiliated colleges to benefit from the technology.
