“Efforts being made to get seafarers released”
Staff Reporter
Tuticorin: The stalemate over the release of the seafarers kidnapped by Somalian pirates on October 21 continues. Vijay Ganesh, (23) of Tuticorin, along with 25 other crew members on board the MV Al Khaliq was kidnapped by pirates in north Somalia when the vessel was on its way from Russia to Tanzania.
Veera Mohan, father of Vijaya Ganesh (23) of Tuticorin, alleged that both the Central and State governments had failed to make efforts in releasing the seafarers, who were being held captive for ransom by pirates.
Veera Mohan had submitted a complaint to the District Collector here on October 26. “Despite having all powers, no government has taken action. If the situation prolongs, my family members, along with members of trade unions, will observe fast-unto-death in front of the Collectorate” the petitioner said.
