CHENNAI: On a dramatic final day, Parry’s upset fancied India Pistons by eight wickets in the eighth round of the TNCA first division league here on Monday. With Arjun Sarathy making a valuable unbeaten 46, Parry’s gained a 24-run first innings lead over Pistons at the Murugappa ground. Left-arm spinner M. Suresh Babu took six for 45. Pistons was bundled out for 98 in its second innings with paceman B. Sriram and left-arm spinner Rahil Shah picking up four wickets each. Set a target of 75 in 19 overs, B. Sriram (31 not out) and N. Raghavendran (30 not out) took Parry’s to victory in the 13th over. Aruna paceman B. Gautam claimed four for 33 — he was well supported by seamer D. Tamilkumaran (three for 25) and off-spinner V.R.S. Gurukedarnath (three for 48) — as Young Stars was shot out for 141 at the SRMC ground. Sadagopan Ramesh blitzed a 39-ball 43 with 10 boundaries. Needing just three to win, Aruna was through in the first over. IOB denies RoversAt IIT-Chemplast, IOB’s L.N. Prasad Reddy (90 not out, 209b, 12x4) and S. Vasanth Saravanan (51) took IOB, following on, to 236 for five to deny Jolly Rovers an outright win. Earlier, pacemen R. Sutheesh and G. Vignesh had claimed six and four wickets respectively to bowl out IOB for 166 in its first innings. K. Shree Vasudeva Das — he completed 500 runs for the season — made 96 (226b, 8x4) and added 123 for the fourth wicket with Sridhar Raj (38 not out) as Grand Slam prevented Vijay from slicing through the innings after making the early inroads. Grand Slam, which had grabbed the first innings lead, was 198 for four in its second innings when the match concluded at the IC-Guru Nanak ground. Left-arm spinner Chakradhar Rao’s six for 63 enabled Indian Bank dismiss host Southern Railway for 168 in its second innings. For the Railway side, T. Dushyanth offered some resistance with an innings of 77 (128b, 12x4). Set a target of 17, Indian Bank was home in the third over without losing a wicket. The scores: At Murugappa: India Pistons 117 & 98 in 57 overs (B. Sriram four for 17, Rahil Shah four for 21) lost to Parry’s 141 in 91 overs (Arjun Sarathy 46 n.o., M. Suresh Babu six for 45) & 77 for two in 13 overs. Parry 8, Pistons 0. At S. Railway: Southern Railway 127 & 168 in 54.5 overs (T. Dushyanth 77, K. Chakradhar Rao six for 63) lost to Indian Bank 279 & 17 for no loss in 2.3 overs. IB 8, S. Rly 0. At IC-Guru Nanak: Grand Slam 239 & 198 for four in 87.1 overs (K. Shree Vasudeva Das 96) drew with Vijay 205. Grand Slam 5, Vijay 2. At SRMC: Young Stars 230 & 141 in 27.2 overs (S. Ramesh 43, B. Gautam four for 33) lost to Aruna 369 & five without loss in 0.4 overs. Aruna 8, Young Stars 0. At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 467 drew with IOB 166 (S. Vasanth Saravanan 44, R. Sutheesh six for 61, G. Vignesh four for 23) & 236 for five in 71 overs (L.N. Prasad Reddy 90 n.o., S. Vasanth Saravanan 51). Rovers 5, IOB 2.
