Better amenities at NIMS soon
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: In the coming month, the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences will be gearing up to improve its facilities and provide better service to patients. The 45-year-old hospital went under the scanner on Tuesday when P. Sudarshan Reddy, Minister for Medical Education reviewed the situation along with Dr. D. Prasad Rao, Director, NIMS.
“There has been a lot of talk, especially in the media about NIMS not catering to patients needs. I don’t agree with this but we are focusing on how to improve amenities further,” Mr. Reddy told media persons later that day. “The biggest demand at the moment is for increasing bed capacity.”
The hospital currently has 940 beds but hopes to take the figure up by at least a few hundred.
However, only 40 beds will be added in the immediate future before taking steps to accommodate more. Equipment will also be upgraded for which the hospital will approach banks as well as enter into partnerships with private entities.
“We are yet to finalise the details,” Mr. Reddy said. He denied reports about NIMS heading for privatisation.
