Bond and Pollard, biggest buys

Special Correspondent

Chennai: New Zealand paceman Shane Bond and the West Indies’ hard-hitting batting all-rounder Kieron Pollard fetched the biggest price during the player auction ahead of IPL Season-III, in Mumbai on Monday. Bond was signed up by Kolkata Knight Riders while Mumbai Indians roped in Pollard.

No cricketer from Pakistan – 11 of them featured in the auction – was signed by a franchise.

Both Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers came up with the highest possible offer of $750,000 for Bond before the bids went into a tie-breaker. The Kolkata team won Bond with the additional amount — the final figure remained undisclosed — going to the IPL.

Mumbai Indians secured Pollard following a tie-breaker after the $750,000 cap was reached. The Mumbai franchise overcame bids from Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

In other significant buys, Deccan Chargers got West Indies paceman Kemar Roach for $720,000. And Delhi Daredevils signed up South African paceman Wayne Parnell for $610,000.
