Protest: Members of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam staging a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore Railway Junction on Tuesday. — Coimbatore: Activists of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) were removed by the police when they attempted to stage a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore Railway Junction on Tuesday. Activists led by General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan had called for an agitation to protest against the practice of diverting all special and weekly trains via Irugur-Podanur-Irugur skipping Coimbatore Junction. The neglect and boycott of Coimbatore Junction was continuing inspite of Coimbatore being the largest revenue spinner in Southern Railway next only to Chennai. Even the recently introduced trains were being diverted via Podanur – Irugur neglecting Coimbatore.
