German national drugged, robbed in train

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: A German national was found in a delirious condition in a train compartment at Howrah Station on Wednesday, after he was drugged and robbed.

David Peteman was found unconscious in an empty compartment of the Vibhuti Express at Howrah by a constable of the Railway Protection Force.

It was learnt that he had been drugged by strangers who offered him tea. The train plies between Varanasi and Kolkata. At 12.20 p.m., an RPF constable was conducting a routine-check in the coaches after all the passengers had disembarked. He found Mr. Peteman in an unconscious condition in the S1 coach and immediately reported the matter to railway authorities, said Samir Goswami, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Railway. Mr. Peteman was admitted to the Howrah General Hospital. Later, he said he boarded the train at Varanasi on Tuesday evening and met two young persons on the train. “I drank chai with two guys, that was my mistake,” he said. “I’ve lost everything, my luggage, clothes.”
