MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index, Sensex, closed flat on Wednesday as late selling washed away over 100-point gain it posted in early trade on the euphoria over IT major and blue-chip Wipro surging to decade’s highest levels. The BSE 30-share barometer settled at 17474.49, a moderate fall of 11.57 points against its previous close. Brokers said sentiment got a boost after Wipro beat expectations with 21 per cent growth in its third quarter earnings. Markets were live as such with optimism after string of encouraging third quarter earnings by corporates, they added. However, weak trends from overseas bourses turned investors nervous and selling pressure emerged across realty, oil & gas and PSU counters. Even Wipro, which had hit a 10-year high of Rs.753 intra-day, fell on profit selling and surprisingly ended with a hefty loss of 1.63 per cent. Rupee sheds 13 paiseThe rupee on Wednesday depreciated by 13 paise to close at a two-week low of 45.93/94 a dollar following weakness in stock markets amid firm dollar overseas. In active trade at the inter-bank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower at 45.86/87 a dollar from its previous close of 45.80/81. Immediately it touched a high of 45.80 before falling back to log nearly two-week low of 46 before finishing the day at 45.93/94 a dollar. — PTI
