Woman attacked

CHENNAI: An attempt was made to murder a woman who had come to check mails at an Internet browsing centre in the Thousand Lights area on Wednesday. The victim who suffered a deep cut injury on her throat was admitted to a private hospital where her condition was said to be stable.
According to police sources, Amutha Rajakumari (31) was browsing the internet when a man walked in with a knife. He attacked her even as others raised an alarm and ran out.
The suspect ran into a waiting car outside and escaped. Passers-by alerted the Thousand Lights police and shifted the victim to a nearby hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Triplicane) T.S. Anbu said a family problem led to the incident.
Amutha’s husband Sugumar (34) who is suspected to have conspired the attack surrendered in a Tiruvallur court on Wednesday evening. A special team was formed to apprehend two others involved in the attack. The woman was living separately after seeking a divorce, he added.
