State syllabus in Success Schools

HYDERABAD: The State government on Wednesday issued orders replacing CBSE syllabus with State syllabus in the 6,500 Success Schools being run in English medium since 2008. The orders will come into effect from 2010-2011 academic year onwards.

The government has also decided to give extensive training to the existing teachers to teach English medium sections apart from recruiting teachers exclusively for English medium sections. The decision was taken recently after school teachers and the unions argued for the change stating that teachers were finding it difficult to teach CBSE syllabus as they were not properly trained, and students were not able to cope up with the sudden change from state syllabus.

The feed back report submitted by the Director, SCERT also reflected similar views.

The Government also said that SCERT will be strengthened by providing necessary budgetary allocation to enable it to update the syllabi of all classes and subjects keeping in view the latest inventions and explorations. Bowing to the demand of English medium instruction in Government schools, the State Government in 2008 issued orders introducing the English Medium instruction in parallel sections with CBSE syllabus in 6,500 identified Government sector Zilla Parishad and Municipal High Schools.
