CHENNAI: On a Wednesday of mass Indian exits, top-seeded Joshna Chinappa needed just 18 minutes to dismiss Surbhi Misra in the first round of the WISPA Challenger event.
Joshna breezed through 11-4, 11-2, 11-7 at the Indian Squash Academy here even as fourth-seeded Dipika Pallikal squandered a two-game advantage to go down in five against South Africa’s Siyoli Waters.
The other ousted Indian players included Anwesha Reddy, Aparajitha Balamurukan and Anaka Alankamony in the WISPA event and Ravi Dixit, Gaurav Nandrajog, Naresh Kumar, A. Parthiban and Abhishek Pradhan in the PSA tournament.
Top-seeded Stephen Coppinger of South Africa was engaged in a 52-minute battle before emerging a 11-2, 6-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5 winner over Gaurav.
Siddharth Suchde, however, beat Hong Kong’s Leo Au in straight games to progress to the next round.
