ABVP to move High Court for Ranabheri’s permission

HYDERABAD: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) plans to approach the High Court to give permission for its Vidyarthi Ranabheri to be held at Nizam College on January 23, after the police denied permission.

“We are hopeful that the Court will permit our democratic right to hold a public meeting,” said R. Shashidhar, ABVP leader. He said the denial of permission by the police disappointed them but hoped that the High Court will protect their right to hold meetings in a peaceful manner. He said police cited the support of political JAC to Ranabheri as a reason to deny permission and this was ridiculous.

He alleged that permission was denied as the government is afraid of the presence of the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament, Sushma Swaraj. “BJP’s promise to support Telangana bill in the Parliament will be announced by her at the meeting, thus cornering the Central Government,” he said adding that it was the reason for denial.

He said even Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy is not aware of the developments, indicating that the police is taking decisions keeping the Minister in dark.

Support pours in

Meanwhile, several Telangana organisations extended their support to the Telangana Vidyarthi Ranabheri.

The organisations representing employees, students, teachers and NRIs appealed to the people to send a strong signal to the Central government by attending the programme in large numbers.

Swami Goud (TNGO), Prof. Satyanarayana (OUTA), Vithal (Telangana Employees Association), Indrasena Reddy (Telangana NRI Development Forum), Arutla Ramu (Telangana NRI Joint Action Committee), Ramesh Reddy (Telangana Universities Teachers Federation) and Kurapati Vijaya Kumar (Telangana Jago Sena) told a press conference they would ensure that people from all sections of Telangana attend the meeting.

They were of the opinion that the presence of Sushma Swaraj at the meeting will put more pressure of the Central Government to expedite their decision.

They said people promised to attend the meeting with their families to send a message to New Delhi through Ms. Swaraj.
