A.K. Mani, Head and Professor, Regional Research Station, Paiyur addressing the inaugural of the three-day training programme for farmers in Paiyur on Thursday. — KRISHNAGIRI: A three day State-level training programme for farmers on the Management of Non-Monetary Inputs in Crop Production began at the Regional Research Station of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at Paiyur in Krishnagiri district on Thursday. Thirty farmers from 15 districts are participating in the three-day residential programme. Inaugurating the training, V. Thirumalai, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the dwindling number of farmers was a cause for concern. With a view to improve this, NABARD was taking all efforts through various programmes in rural areas. NABARD was conducting Capacity Building through Adoption of Technology (CAT) for farmers through various training programmes such as System of Rice Intensification, Green House, precision farming and tissue culture. As many as 30 such training programmes were sponsored by NABARD in the State, out of which the Krishnagiri district got the lion’s share of seven training programmes. In his presidential address, A.K. Mani, Head and Professor of the Regional Research Station, said manpower shortage hampers agriculture sector. To offset this, the RRS was sensitizing the farmers on adopting various low cost technologies to reap maximum benefits. Dr. T. Sundararajan, Coordinator, Dr. Perumal Krishi Vignan Kendra, Krishnagiri, urged the participants to create awareness about the new technology among the farmers in their districts. S. Ravichandran, Senior Manager, Pallavan Grama Bank, Paiyur branch, spoke on the occasion. S. Vijayabaskaran, Associate Professor, welcomed the gathering. T. Rajabaskar, Assistant Professor, proposed a vote of thanks.
