Physically challenged kids get assistance

TIRUNELVELI: Collector M. Jayaraman and Tirunelveli MP S. Ramasubbu on Wednesday disbursed equipment worth Rs.12.74 lakh to physically challenged children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme.

Through the special medical camps held across the district between July 14, 2009 and August 28, 2009, it has been found that the mobility and learning capacity of 1,083 physically challenged children could be improved substantially by providing them with appropriate equipment.

The district received Rs.52.05 lakh under the SSA programme for the procurement of the equipment to improve the learning capacity of the differently-abled children.

The equipment were disbursed to the children on Wednesday by the Collector and the MP.
