COIMBATORE: In order to keep a check on the colleges, the Bharathiar University will form a flying squad comprising three syndicate members, the university’s Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan said here on Thursday. Speaking to presspersons, he said the measure was to address the complaints received from students with regard to lack of basic infrastructure and faculty in the colleges. “The colleges have been informed about the flying squad. But they will not be told as to when the squad will visit them. It will visit the colleges affiliated to the university and give a report. Based on the report, the respective college, if found to be lacking in amenities, will be warned and given time to rectify the deficiencies. If the colleges failed to remedy the situation, strict action will be initiated. It can also lead to de-affiliation,” the Vice-Chancellor said. To ready the civil services’ aspirants for the preliminary examination to be held in May 2010, an IAS Coaching Centre would start functioning in the university from the first week of February, Mr. Swaminathan said. The first batch would have 100 students. Subsequent batches would be trained to enable them face the preliminary as well as the final examinations being held in November. This would be of help to the many aspirants from the Kongu region, he added.
