VIJAYAWADA: Krishna District Joint Collector B. Ramaiah on Thursday asked the officials to take stringent action against traders who were creating artificial scarcity of essential commodities by hoarding them in warehouses, so that the prices of commodities could be regulated in the open market. Addressing a meeting of district-level committee on price regulation here, Mr. Ramaiah reviewed the prices of commodities and vegetables sold in various rythu bazaars across the district. He asked the officials to take up on a war- footing repairs to the permanent shelters in all rythu bazaars. He said that a notification would be issued soon to recruit estate officers in rythu bazaars on contract basis. Mr. Ramaiah said that efforts were on to set up a new rythu bazaar either at Gollapudi or Bhavanipuram on the city outskirts. There was a drop in vegetable prices due to the increase in supply. He asked the officials to conduct surprise checks on godowns twice a month. District Supplies Officer K. Singaiah, Assistant Supply Officers Chitti Babu, Krishna Rao and others were present.
