Convincing victory for GCT

COIMBATORE: Government College of Technology thrashed Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology by nine wickets in the first CDCA inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the SNR Sons College grounds here on Thursday.

After bundling its opponent out for 91, Sri Ramakrishna romped home in the 13th over.

Sri Ramakrishna IT 91 in 27.4 overs (Suresh Kumar three for 15) lost to GCT 93 for one in 12.4 overs (Ashwin 53); SNR Sons 177 for seven in 30 overs (R. Arun Kumar 32, Ashok 43, Kennedy 30 n.o.) bt VLB EC 169 for nine in 30 overs (Arun Anthony 33, Niranjan 35).

SNGC 143 for nine in 23 overs (Rahul 47, Praveen 34) bt Park EC 56 in 15 overs (Rajith five for 15); Hindusthan CT 172 for five in 30 overs (Bhuvanesh 34, Ashraf 52, Ravichandran three for 25) bt Sri Krishna CAS 145 in 26 overs (Kirubashankar 58, Manoj Kumar four for 24, Lakshmanan four for 24).

Big win for Mani HSS

G. Sri Vardhan (58) and Aneesh (57 not out) chipped in with useful contributions as Mani HSS scored a convincing 187-run win over Chinmaya International Residential School in the CDCA inter-school (non-age group) cricket tournament for the T.S.S. & Co. Trophy at the TNAU grounds on Thursday.

Mani HSS 228 in 20 overs (G. Sri Vardhan 58, Rahul 38, Aneesh 57 not out) bt Chinmaya IRS 41 in 13.2 overs; RKS Kalvi Nilayam HSS 165 for six in 20 overs (Yogesh Kumar 45, Dinesh 30, K. Gowtham four for 21) bt CSI MHSS 50 in 10.5 overs (Marudhapandi three for five); Trinity MHSS 111 for six in 20 overs (Raj Surya 40, Manikandan three for 24) lost to PSG Sarvajana HSS 112 for three in 17.2 overs (Manikandan 43); Jayendra Saraswathi 187 for five in 20 overs (J. Koushik 64, Dinesh 39) bt CBHSS (Siddhapudhur) 93 in 17.4 overs (Kannan three for 12).

Loyola in final

Loyola College (Chennai) proved its superiority yet again with a 6-0 win over Sree Narayana Guru College (Coimbatore) in the semifinal of the 19th State-level inter-collegiate men’s football tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSG CAS grounds here on Thursday.

Dilip Kumar turned on the heat for the visiting side with a double effort, while Charles, Cho-Cho and Kuppeswaran netted one goal each.

In the final, Loyola will clash with host PSG College of Arts and Science, which scored a 3-1 win over Coimbatore Institute of Technology.

Karthikeyan struck twice in Sri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya’s 4-0 win over ABC MHSS in the Sri Rao Bahadur memorial rolling trophy football tournament at the Sri Gopal Naidu HSS grounds on Thursday.

Sri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya 4 (Koushik 8, Ajit Kumar 19, Karthikeyan 24 & 27) bt ABC MHSS 0; Mani HSS 2 (Muralidharan 27, S. Suminath 52) bt Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MHSS 1 (Aravindsamy 40).

Collegiate Twenty20

The District Cricket Association-Namakkal will conduct its seventh inter-collegiate Twenty20 cricket tournament during the first week of February.
