A.N. Roy becomes Maharashtra DGP again

Staff Reporter

MUMBAI: Anami Narayan Roy, Maharashtra’s Director-General of Police (Anti-Corruption), was appointed State police chief on Thursday. He was already holding additional charge as DGP, after S.S. Virk retired on October 31, 2009.

This is Mr. Roy’s second term as DGP. A 1972 batch officer, he was earlier made DGP on February 29, 2008. However, the appointment was quashed by the Bombay High Court as it was challenged for bypassing seniority guidelines. After Mr. Virk’s retirement, Mr. Roy made it to the seniority list.

Mr. Roy remained the State police chief for 11 months before being asked to step down in March last year.
