Janchetna van gets place back
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A day after the Janchetna Book Exhibition van was removed from DU’s Arts Faculty premises following a tiff between Janchetna supporters and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists, it was granted permission to resume functioning at the venue on Friday.
Janchetna supporters said that they met the university authorities and convinced them that they were propagating progressive ideas and should not be asked to shut their exhibition.
The problem had cropped earlier this week when Janchetna supporters claimed that ABVP activists attacked the van as they did not approve of the literature on display. The ABVP, however, had denied its involvement in the incident.
On Thursday, Janchetna supporters held a demonstration against the attack following which ABVP supporters arrived on the scene and a tiff ensued between the two groups.
The university authorities subsequently ordered removal of the van from Arts Faculty premises fearing a law and order problem.
