Protest

SALEM: Employees of post offices staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office here on Friday.

According to the protestors, the demonstration had been staged in protest against the Salem Corporation’s move to construct school buildings under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme at a site that had been earmarked for construction of Sub Post office.

The employees claimed that a few days ago, ‘boomi pooja’ had been performed at the 20,000 sq.ft. land near Lorry Market here.

They claimed that the site had already been in the possession of Postal Department for constructing post office there.

The land should be restored to the postal department, they insisted.
