SALEM: Police are on the look-out for miscreants who felled many well-grown trees along the Periyapudur Road near Saradha College here on Saturday. According to residents, they had grown trees on both sides of the Periyapudur Main Road under the ‘Greening Salem’ scheme. These trees had grown well. But since Friday, a few persons had started cutting these trees without informing anyone that they were going to do so. When they asked about the matter, the residents were told that road widening works would be undertaken soon and hence the workers had been asked to cut down the trees. The workers had also felled a few healthy and green trees. The residents approached the officials concerned and wanted to know whether they had sent any worker to cut the well-grown trees along the road.
