Revanna flays lavish spending on Hampi celebrations

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The floor leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, H.D. Revanna, on Saturday hit out at the State government for spending a huge amount of money for celebrating the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Vijayanagar emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya at Hampi for three days from January 27 when lakhs of people were in distress following the floods in September-October last year. He told presspersons that instead of spending Rs. 40 crore on the fete, the amount could have been utilised for construction of houses and for paying crop compensation for those hit.
