Panel wants music shows cancelled

CHENNAI: A monitoring committee set up under the Tobacco Control Act has requested a private company to cancel music programmes arranged by it on January 23 and 24.

The panel has requested the Chennai Police Commissioner not to allow the programmes.

Letters have been sent to film composers and singers who are to take part.

If the company does not heed the warning, action will be taken against it, states an official release.

On receiving information that Four Square cigarette manufacturer is issuing tickets to youngsters, the State tobacco control cell officers conducted a check and found that music programmes were conducted at Kodambakkam and T. Nagar on January 9 and 10, in which prominent film composers and singers had participated. — Special Correspondent
