Re-canalisation surgery performed
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: Doctors at the Kallakurichi Government Hospital recently performed a “re-canalisation” laparoscopic surgery - a reversal of family planning operation - on a woman who had lost both her children.
A statement from Collector R. Palanisamy said that Munian and Valli of Soundaravallipalayam in Sanakarapuram block lost their children, Kausalya (12) and Balamurugan (9), during a flood in the Maniyaru on December 5, 2009.
The woman had already undergone tubectomy. However, on medical advice, the couple decided to undo tubectomy with a view to having children again.
On information, the Collector held a discussion with Deputy Director of Health Dharamalingam, who said that there would be 40 to 50 per cent chances for the woman to bear child again through re-canalisation process. A team of doctors at the Kallakurichi Government Hospital conducted a laparoscopic surgery on January 9 to undo the tubectomy.
