Tuticorin: The State Government had spent a huge sum of Rs. 99 crore towards surgical treatments on beneficiaries under Kalaignar Health Insurance scheme so far, said to S. Elango, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, here on Sunday. More types of diseases were being added under the scheme as against the existing 51 types of surgical treatments for various ailments. Hailing the benefits of the scheme, he said that it was a real help for people who could not afford expensive life-saving treatment. As many as 1, 200 children in various parts of Tamil Nadu underwent surgical treatments under the scheme. ‘108’ ambulance serviceThe service of ‘108’ emergency ambulance of the State government was playing a crucial role in providing medical treatment and assistance for the needy in a timely manner. Responding to calls, the emergency vans reached the needy in 23 minutes on an average. Steps were being made to deploy more ‘108’ emergency vans. Counselling On January 28, counselling for transfer of health staffers would be held. As many as 135 posts were lying vacant. The vacancy of Municipal Health Officer post in Tuticorin Corporation would be filled soon.
