R & D lab with foreign collaboration coming up
R Vimal Kumar
Tirupur: Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) will soon set up a Research and Development (R&D) laboratory in Tirupur at Rs.10 crore with foreign collaboration to facilitate studies for enhancing production of apparels made of man-made fabrics, according to AEPC Chairman Premal Udani.
“The growth in textile sector will come only through partnerships and hence, we have decided to go for a foreign tie-up to establish the R&D unit, which will be set up under the ambit of recently-launched Knitwear Technology Mission (KTM),” he told The Hindu here. The facility, once commissioned, would act as a centre of excellence to facilitate diversification of knitwear products from the traditional cotton-based to synthetic and other man-made fibres.
