dated January 25, 1960: India & Nepal

Nepal’s Prime Minister Koirala, who arrived in Delhi on January 24, was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome. Mr. Koirala came down to India a week ago and was visiting various centres of interest. He will be having talks with Mr. Nehru during the next three or four days. The Delhi talks have primarily to be viewed in the context of the proposed visit of Mr. Koirala to Peking sometime in March next. For some time past Nepal has been seeking revision of the Trade Agreement with India. From time to time questions like Nepal’s currency and foreign exchange earnings were being raised. Nepal’s leaders realised that with their country landlocked as it is, certain limitations were inevitable and that they would gain more by India’s goodwill than by taking up a too independent attitude.
