Udupi: Paediatrician Krishnamurthy Upadhyaya said on Sunday that parents should only guide their children and not impose their views on them. Inaugurating the three-day cartoon exhibition on global warming and climate change, organised by the Gerebare Art School to mark its fifth anniversary here, he said children should be given the knowledge to differentiate between the right and the wrong. The minds of children were soft and broad. They could remember only what was essential from their point of view. Cheating and fooling were unknown to them, he said. As parents were putting pressure on children to study, they were no longer enjoying their childhood. Children were given an impression that there was nothing else for them beyond studies. They were made to learn things which they were not interested in, Dr. Upadhyaya said. Some decades ago, children had little to eat but they were lively in their outlook and disposition. Now, children could get everything they wanted, but their lives were stressed, he said. Cartoonist James Vaz inaugurated the exhibition.
