Construction workers seek fair deal

VIZIANAGARAM: Construction workers under the banner A.P. Building Workers’ Federation, affiliated to AITUC, on Monday staged a dharna at the Collector’s Office in protest against the indifferent attitude of officials in the Labour Department towards workers who are ready to enroll their names as members.
V. Krishnam Raju, AITUC president, who led the protesters, said the department had now been asking workers to pay the membership fee through online banking.
That apart, the department that promised identity cards to the enrolled members by November 15 last year had not so far expedited it on the plea that problems in computers arose, the AITUC leader said.
