VELLORE: A retired employee of a bank along with his wife and another person staged a hunger protest outside the Central Cooperative Bank, Vellore on Monday stating that they had not received the money along with the interest which was deposited in 2003. Police said Murugesan was a retired employee of LD Bank, Ambur. Rs. 5 lakh depositedHis sister Janakiammal had deposited Rs.5 lakh in 2003 with the Central Cooperative Bank under one of the deposit schemes. The money was deposited for a period of five years. Janakiammal had nominated her daughter and daughter-in-law as the first and second nominee. As per the agreement the deposit matured in 2008. But Janakiammal had never got back the money along with the interest amount. When the bank officials were contacted, they had told her that the money had been sent to her daughter-in-law. However, it was stated that her daughter-in-law had not received the money till 2009. Under these circumstances, Janakiammal committed suicide in 2009. Police said urging the bank to return the deposited money, Murugesan along with his wife Maliga and another person staged a hunger protest outside the Vellore Central Cooperative Bank. Enquiry orderedThe Special Officer of the bank, Thenmozhi, told them that the bank had ordered an enquiry into the matter. Further action could be taken only after enquiry was completed,.
