DINDIGUL: With more than 100 exhibitors, including State and Central governments, research institutions and exporters, the four day agriculture expo, first of its kind in South Tamil Nadu, that started at Dudley School ground here on Saturday aims to showcase latest developments in agriculture and agro-based industries. The Horticulture Department welcomes you with different varieties of hybrid chillies, tomato, mango, sapotta and other vegetable crops. The Coir Board teaches farmers to use coconut pith usefully and informs about a global demand for coir pith cakes that act as sponge to store water under earth. Revival package for sick coir making unit is also available. The star attractions are coir-geo textiles, coco lawn and pith plus, a micro nutrient, and coir insulated sticks, a new support system for climbers. The Coffee Board shows hundreds of pests that destroy coffee plants and offers pest control measures. Ornamental fish, fancy birds, turkey, Emu, country hens, mega- size coconut, bunch of green pepper and cardamom with plants attract even the common man. Mango pulp and sugar-coated dried mango pieces and organic honey are also available. Traditional foodsThere is an opportunity to taste traditional food items such as Kambu, cholam and ragi koozh (porridge), kollu soup, Samai and white maize rice with side dish of fish masala and fried chillies.
